Covid - 19 Face Coverings and Frequently Asked Questions

Face coverings are critical to stopping the spread of COVID-19. Wear one at all times when outside your home and around other people, and even while at home if you are with people you don’t live with or if you or someone you live with is sick, recently tested positive for COVID-19, or was recently exposed to someone with COVID-19. Face coverings save lives – wear one and wear it correctly: snug against your face and covering both your nose and mouth. • Up to two hours of excused leave during work hours for travel (to and from) administration of the vaccine.

State Of Labor During Covid - President Powell Testifies at City Council Labor Committee

On 1/27/21, UPOA President Powell testifies at City Council Labor Committee stating “under normal circumstances, Probation Officers’ work is challenging. COVID-19 has made the situation even more challenging.  Our members work seven days a week to guarantee public safety. The members of the United Probation Officers Association in Adult and Family Services since COVID-19 hit persevered despite the safety and health challenges they faced, as they never stopped performing their core central functions and continued to provide vital services and resources to the probation clients and the community at large. ……we ask that you support the early retirement legislation as most of our members are in their 50’s and older who work under very stressful, physically taxing and dangerous conditions.

We also are requesting frequent cleaning of air vents and carpets at all our worksites.

Finally, we would like to recommend that the city post COVID 19 consider giving municipal employees the option to work remotely based on the agency operational needs as the unknown such as 911 and COVID 19 has forced us to rethink our lives as well as how we must work smarter and safer.” Read President Powell’s entire testimony.

What You Need To Know About Covid and Traveling

There is widespread transmission of COVID-19 across the United States (U.S.) and in many other countries. Traveling right now puts you, your family and your community at risk of getting sick and spreading the virus to others. If you must travel, plan ahead, take precautions and be prepared to quarantine when you return. New York State (NYS) has strict quarantine requirements for visitors and returning New Yorkers. These requirements help us reduce the spread of COVID-19. People returning from areas with a large number of COVID-19 cases are more likely to have been exposed to the virus and get COVID-19 themselves. Quarantine is particularly important for reducing the spread of COVID-19 since it is possible to have COVID-19 and not know it. People without symptoms can spread the virus. What New Yorkers Need to Know About Covid- 19 Vaccines

New York City is committed to keeping everyone safe and healthy by ensuring that access to COVID-19 vaccines is fair and equitable. COVID-19 vaccines will likely be available for most New Yorkers by mid-2021. Some people, such as health care workers, essential workers who cannot separate from others, and older adults and other people at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 will have access to the vaccine sooner. When you get vaccinated, you are helping to protect yourself and your family and friends. You are also helping to make your community safer. We know New Yorkers care about their communities, including health care workers and small business owners. Click here to read FAQs about Covid-19 Vaccines
